IN ASSOCIATION WITH GAUNTLET BIRDS OF PREY , KNUTSFORD, CHESHIRE

We are now able to offer a day of specialist photography scenarios featuring iconic Birds of Prey at Gauntlets fantastic Centre on the outskirts of Knutsford. This Workshop will take our ‘normal’ Bird of Prey photography days to the next level.

The day has been designed to give you the opportunity to photograph various birds to give you the chance of totally unique and special images.

Based in and around the Centre we have chosen each location carefully to maximise the potential for truly special images.

Working with the various birds is ongoing and whilst the itinerary below is fixed at the moment, as this work evolves the hope is that we can make the day even more special.

So, to date this is what we will be including in your experience..

Barn Owl

The opportunity to photograph a hunting Barn Owl, low level from a Voles point of view, and as it hovers over the long meadow grass it hunts across.

African Fish Eagle

Replicating this birds natural behaviour in the wild, we will be giving you the opportunity to photograph the Eagle swooping in over a beautifully natural pond to the rear of the Centre, as it plucks a fish from the surface of the pond and flies out over your heads.

Golden Eagle

An amazing opportunity to get up close to this iconic bird of prey as its feeds on its natural prey of rabbit or pheasant.

Little Owl

This ever so cute Little Owl born this summer is going to be the star of the show, you will have the opportunity to photograph this little dude, called Murray in many situations, including the ever so hilarious running shots straight at the camera.

All the birds are captive and part of the Centres amazing collection, whilst every endeavour will be made to give you the experience we hope for, they are birds with natural wild behaviour, so this need to be borne in mind. They will have minimal or no ‘equipment’ on them to make your images as natural as possible.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be up close and personal to these amazing birds that Graham and his team at Gauntlet always have in tip top condition,  you will not need long expensive lenses to achieve nice images, but a certain amount of specialist kit will be required. For the Barn Owl swooping you will need a wide angle lens in the range of 14-24mm full frame, and a wireless shutter release, and for hovering shots something in the range of 70-200, 100-400 will be fine. Likewise most of the Little Owl work will be close up, so again wide angle and shorter zoom lenses will be ideal.

The fish eagle shots can be achieved in a couple of ways, either again with a low level wide angle lens fired remotely or with a short zoom hand or tripod mounted set away form the pond.

The Golden Eagle will give fantastic close up tight portrait shots, and also wider framed shots to bring in the carefully prepared natural background.

This is a real special day, will be hugely popular, in a fantastic location, with an array of really special birds. The day starts at 10am and will run through until 4pm with a break for lunch which will be provided. and also Tea, coffee and cold drinks.

Birds of Prey and photographing them is Gary’s real passion, and he will be on hand all day to assist, guide and help you achieve images to be proud of.

There are only 5 places available for this workshop, and they are sure to fill fast, email Gary direct at gjwildlifephotography@outlook.com for a booking form. Below are a few images of the actual birds at the Centre that will be photographed over the course of the day, and a bit of feedback from our Guests on previous workshops.
