Black Grouse Lek,  Northern Sweden

Join Gary next Spring in the glorious wilderness of Northern Sweden to photograph the Black Grouse lekking.

For this trip we will be very much concentrating on photographing Black Grouse as their lekking season reaches its climax. Working in individual hides on the frozen mire, this is truly an amazing experience to get close up to the birds. Each morning we will leave in darkness, to be driven to the hides and in position ready for daylight, with the prospect of some fantastic sunrises and backlit images of the birds. There will be 4 mornings in the Grouse hides, after each session we will travel back to your accommodation for a late breakfast, and prepare for the rest of the day …

While the emphasis of the trip is the Black Grouse, after a late Breakfast, you will then have the opportunity to spend the rest of the day in the amazing Golden Eagle Hides, with the opportunity to photograph these iconic birds, and much more,  like birds such as Jays, Black and Grey Headed woodpeckers, many small birds such as Willow Tits, Crested Tits and other raptors such as Sparrowhawks, plus Red Squirrel and Red Fox.

There is no better place to photograph Golden Eagles, on the edge of the Boreal Pine forests, from Connys heated purpose built log cabin hide.

Everything is included in the cost of this trip except your flights from the UK to Northern Sweden, where the workshop starts, which flights to book will be communicated to you, and booking is very simple.

Included in the cost are airport transfers, accommodation, all food, guidance and tuition. Kalvtrask is a very small village in Northern Sweden, so there is little to spend money on, so you don’t need a lot of spending money.

For both the Grouse and the Eagles you will generally need a lens with a focal length of 400-600mm.

Sweden is an incredible Country to visit, the people are ever so friendly, it’s a lovely clean place, and we will be staying close by to the home of Conny and his wife Catarina, who really do look after us… included is your stay here, including all meals, breakfast, packed lunch and home cooked evening meal.
