Join Gary on the Isle of Mull to photograph the UK’s biggest bird of prey, the White Tailed Eagle, often known as the Sea Eagle.
We will be sailing out of Ulva Ferry, Isle of Mull, on Lady Jayne, under the expert guidance of Martin and Alex Keivers, Mull Charters. Gary has been working with these guys for many years, having been on numerous Eagle trips with them, and their knowledge of both the Eagles, and the other abundant wildlife in the area is invaluable.
This Workshop have been put together to get you as close as possible to the Eagles, Martin has been working with the birds for many years, and knows their habits and territories, and always seems to get us in the right place at the right time, with numerous visits to the boat by the Eagles, that swoop and pick up a fish from the surface.
For these trips we will have exclusive use of the boat, in that there will only be our party on the boat which means there will be plenty of room to move about, with unobstructed views of the eagles.
On the Saturday we will have a 6 hour trip out on the boat, sailing at approximately 10am dependent on tides and weather, then on the Sunday morning there will be another 3 hour trip in the morning, that’s a full 9 hours out on the boat photographing the Eagles. My Workshops are always totally relaxed, Martin and Alex will get us very close to the birds, I will be on hand right through the trip to offer as much advice and assistance that is needed to send you home with stunning images of these amazing birds. Time will be spent before we actually sail to talk through settings, exposure, autofocus etc to make sure that you are ready and confident before any Eagles appear, and no chances are wasted through not being prepared.
In terms of Photographic kit required for the trip, a decent Camera will get you good results, that is not to say lesser cameras won’t but it will certainly help, and you will need a lens that will give you a focal length of 300mm up to 400mm. You will be shooting hand held on a moving boat, so using a tripod will not be practical.
But it’s just not all about the Eagles, Mull is a wildlife haven, and on these trips there is every possibility of seeing numerous seabirds such as Gannets, Auks etc, Whales, Seals, Dolphins and Otters, plus the amazing scenery and landscapes that surround you when out on the boat.
